How Each Page Is Laid Out

Each page is divided into three columns that run in parallel, verse by verse. The widest column carries the English translation of the meanings. The middle column gives the transliteration, which is the Arabic verse written out phonetically in Roman letters. The column on the right shows the Arabic verse itself, taken from the Mushaf al-Madinah, with its verse number. Because all three are lined up on the same row, you can move your eye across from the Arabic to the sounds and then to the meaning without losing your place.

Every page also shows the surah name and the Juz (part) number in the header, which makes it easy to follow along in a class or to find the passage being recited in salah.

Transliteration and Translation: What Is the Difference?

A translation tells you what the Qur'an means in English. A transliteration tells you how the Arabic sounds, using the English alphabet. For example, the opening verse of every surah is written in Roman letters along the lines of "Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem", while the translation beside it reads "In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful". With both on the page, you can recite the actual words of the Qur'an in Arabic and understand them at the same time.

Premium Paper or White Paper?

Premium Paper – £24.30. Printed on a higher-grade, cream-toned paper that is gentle on the eyes during long reading sessions. It also makes a lovely gift.

White Paper – £22.30. Printed on bright white paper at a slightly lower price. It is ideal for everyday reading, classrooms and buying several copies for a study circle.

Both editions contain exactly the same Arabic text, transliteration and translation, in the same hardcover 17 x 24 cm format. Choose your paper type from the options above before adding to your basket.

Who Is This Quran For?

• New Muslims and reverts – recite Surah al-Fatihah and the short surahs in Arabic from your first day, and understand what you are saying.

• Adults who never learned to read Arabic – take part in recitation at home and in the masjid with confidence.

• Parents – help children practise their surahs at home, even if you are still learning yourself.

• Students of the Qur'an – use the transliteration as a guide while you learn the Arabic letters, then rely on it less and less.

• Non-Muslims exploring Islam – see the original Arabic, hear how it sounds and read its meaning, all in one book.

How to Get the Most From This Edition

Start with the surahs you recite most often. Listen to a recording by a qualified reciter while you follow the transliteration with your finger, then read the translation to understand the passage. Repeat each verse until you can say it smoothly, and keep glancing at the Arabic column so the shapes of the words become familiar. Transliteration is an excellent bridge, but Roman letters cannot capture every Arabic sound exactly, so it works best alongside lessons in Tajweed and the Arabic alphabet. Many readers find that, over time, they begin reading the Arabic column directly.

About the Hilali-Khan Translation

The English column uses the same translation found in Darussalam's Noble Qur'an – Interpretation of the Meanings, one of the most widely distributed English translations in the world. Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali held a Ph.D. from Berlin and was formerly a Professor of Islamic Faith and Teachings. Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan was formerly Director of the University Hospital at the Islamic University of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, and is also known for his English translation of Sahih al-Bukhari.

The translation includes short explanations in brackets, drawn from the classical commentaries, to clarify the meaning of a verse. Some readers find these very helpful for understanding the context, while others prefer to read the plainer wording outside the brackets first.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Because three columns share each page, the Arabic text is printed in a compact size. If your main aim is to recite from large, clear Arabic, choose a Mushaf such as the Uthmani Script Quran (Mushaf Madinah) and keep this edition for learning the pronunciation and meaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Quran with transliteration?

It is a Qur'an in which the Arabic verses are also written in English (Roman) letters, so you can pronounce the Arabic without reading Arabic script. This edition also includes the original Arabic and an English translation.

Does this Quran include the Arabic text?

Yes. Every verse appears in the original Arabic from the Mushaf al-Madinah, next to its transliteration and English translation.

Is it the complete Quran?

Yes. It contains the complete Qur'an, all 114 surahs across 30 Juz, in a single hardcover volume.

Which English translation is used?

The Hilali-Khan translation by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, the same one used in Darussalam's Noble Qur'an.

Is it hardcover or paperback?

Both editions are hardcover and measure 17 x 24 cm.

What is the difference between the Premium Paper and White Paper editions?

Only the paper. Premium Paper is a higher-grade, cream-toned stock (£24.30), and White Paper is bright white (£22.30). The content and size are identical.

Can I learn to recite the Quran using transliteration?

Yes, transliteration is a helpful starting point, especially for short surahs. For correct pronunciation, use it together with audio recitation and Tajweed lessons, as Roman letters cannot show every Arabic sound perfectly.

Is this suitable for new Muslims?

Yes. It is one of the most popular Qur'an editions for reverts, because it lets them recite in Arabic and understand the meaning from the start.

Is the Arabic text large?

The Arabic is printed in a compact size so that three columns fit on each page. If you want large Arabic for recitation, pair this book with a standard Mushaf.

Do you deliver across the UK?

Yes. Darussalam UK ships from Birmingham to all UK addresses, and orders over £45 qualify for free UK delivery.

Good quality paper & production; good transliteration

Good quality paper & production; good Arabic text (if a little small) and good transliteration. The al-Hilali-Khan translation is hard to read as the flow is disrupted frequently by their interjections of what they want us to believe the text means, a bit like someone constantly interrupting a lecturer giving a talk.

    Fantastic

Beautiful edition for anyone like myself, who doesn’t speak Arabic but wants to learn.
I must say that perhaps better packaging would help as it arrived a bit torn up and with all the corners bent. It’s perfect for me but I would not gift it like this.
