The Well of Zamzam

Islamic tradition traces the well to Hajar and her son Isma’il, who were left in the valley of Makkah, where the spring appeared to sustain them. The well has flowed ever since and has supplied pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah for well over a thousand years. A well-known narration, reported in Sunan Ibn Majah, says that the water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for, which is why many Muslims make a sincere dua when they drink it.

How to drink Zamzam water

Many Muslims say Bismillah, drink slowly in a few sips, and pause for a personal dua afterwards. Practices vary slightly between individuals and schools of thought, so ask your local scholar if you would like to follow a particular method exactly.
