Commentary on Kitab At-Tawheed is Darussalam's 2-volume English translation of Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-'Uthaymeen's Al-Qawl Al-Mufeed 'ala Kitab At-Tawheed, his detailed explanation of Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab's foundational treatise on the oneness of Allah. Originally delivered as lessons in Al-'Uthaymeen's own mosque, the commentary works through the source text point by point, closing each topic with a numbered list of "Important Matters" summarising the lessons drawn from it.
About This Set
This edition was translated into English by Abu Naasir Ibrahim Abdur-Rauf from recorded lectures Shaykh Al-'Uthaymeen delivered in the main mosque of 'Unayzah, Saudi Arabia, later transcribed and revised for publication. Each chapter follows the same structure: the relevant verses or hadith from Kitab At-Tawheed are presented first, followed by Al-'Uthaymeen's line-by-line explanation of the wording and its implications, and closing with an enumerated "Important Matters" section distilling the chapter's key lessons and rulings.
About Kitab At-Tawheed
Kitab At-Tawheed is the core theological treatise of Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhab bin Sulaiman At-Tamimi (1115-1206 AH / 1703-1792 CE), the Najdi scholar whose reform movement called for founding worship and belief on the Qur'an and Sunnah alone. The book sets out Tawheed under its three main headings — Ruboobiyyah (Allah's Lordship), Uloohiyyah (His exclusive right to be worshipped), and Asmaa was-Sifaat (His Names and Attributes) — and identifies both what nullifies a person's Tawheed outright and what merely weakens it, using the Qur'an and authentic hadith as its evidence throughout rather than relying on independent opinion.
About This Commentary
Because Kitab At-Tawheed itself is concise, later scholars produced extended commentaries drawing out its evidences and implications in fuller detail; Al-Qawl Al-Mufeed is among the most widely read of these explanations. Al-'Uthaymeen's approach is analytical rather than purely narrative — he explains difficult vocabulary and grammar, raises likely objections to a given ruling and answers them, and draws on incidents from the lives of the Prophet's ﷺ companions to illustrate each point, reflecting the commentary's origin as a series of live lessons rather than a text written for silent reading alone.
About the Author
Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-'Uthaymeen (1347-1421 AH / 1929-2001 CE) was born and largely taught in 'Unayzah in the Qaseem region of Saudi Arabia. He studied under Shaykh Abdur-Rahman As-Sa'di from 1945 until As-Sa'di's death, and later attended the Ma'had Al-'Ilmi in Riyadh under Shaykh Ibn Baz. He went on to teach in 'Unayzah's main mosque for decades and served as a professor at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, becoming one of the most widely referenced Saudi scholars of the twentieth century, with dozens of works spanning Tawheed, fiqh, and Qur'anic exegesis still in print today.
What's Included in This Edition
The 2-volume set carries the translated lessons in full, chapter by chapter, each paired with the relevant portion of Kitab At-Tawheed's original Arabic argument in translation before Al-'Uthaymeen's explanation begins. The recurring "Important Matters" summaries at the end of each chapter make it practical to revisit a chapter's core lessons without re-reading the full explanation, and the question-and-objection format used throughout mirrors how the material was originally taught rather than presenting it as a dry reference text.
