Preface
There is not a person in this world who is not facing some sort of difficulty or problems. Anyone can strengthen their bond with Allah simply by making supplications to Him. We can seek relief from our difficulties and problems by directly calling upon Allah without the need of any mediators between us and our Lord.
And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you. (Surah Ghafir:60)
Allah has blessed us with immeasurable great blessings and it is incumbent upon every human being to thank his Lord, his Creator and Master, for all of the countless blessings which we are surrounded throughout our lives.
The Messenger of Allah (s), who is the ummah’s greatest teacher, has informed us that we should remember Allah throughout the day. From the very moment we wake up in the morning until we sleep at night, we should call out to Allah seeking His help in everything we do. He PBUH taught his ummah supplications which protect a person from various afflictions they may face.
In this article, “5 Essential Supplications” are being mentioned that every human being should remember. Because a common man may need these Duas many times a day. The Duas are below:
Dua No.1: Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim’’
Greatness of Bismillah:
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about “Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim” He ﷺ replied that it is amongst Allah’s names and the distance between it and the “Ism-ul-Azam” is as close as the space between the Iris (Blackness of the eye) and its cornea (whiteness of the eye). [Mustadrak Hakim 2027]
Note: Ism-ul-Azam is the greatest and special name of Allah with which all duas are accepted. In Sha Allah
Recite it before every job
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Some special places to recite Bismillah:
Bismillah should be recited before starting any job like entering a mosque, home, class room or reciting Quran or Hadith or starting to drive a vehicle et. From the biography of the Messenger of Allah, it is clear that a person should continue the wazifa of Bismillah on his tongue, because of this; blessings are added by Allah almighty to every matter. The following are some special places on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited Bismillah or ordered to recite Bismillah:
1. At reciting Quran:
Narrated Qatada that Hazrat Anas was asked, “How was the recitation (of the Qur’an) of the Prophet?’ He replied, “It was characterized by the prolongation of certain sounds.” He then recited: (بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ)(In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful). (Sahih Bukhari: 5046)
Note: The “Bismillah” will be recited at the start of every Surah from Holy Quran. (Sahih Muslim: 400)
2. When going to the washroom:
Ali bin Abi Talid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “The screen between the eyes of the jinns and the nakedness of the children of Adam when one of you enters the area of relieving oneself is saying: ‘Bismillah.’. (Sunan Tirmidhi:606)
Note: The Messenger of Allah taught a special dua for going to the washroom, so it is better to recite “Bismillah” and after that to recite the special dua for going to wash room, before going to the washroom, and then enter the washroom. In the following is the Dua to go washroom:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الخُبُثِ وَالخَبَائِثِ
“O Allah, I seek protection in You from evil and the evil ones (or, from the evil male and female Jinn).”
3. at the start of ablution (Wudhu):
Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Messenger of Allah PBUH said: The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah (in the beginning) is not valid. (Sunan Abi Dawud:101)
4. at the time of eating something.
‘Umar b. Abu Salama reported: I was under the care of Allah’s Messenger PBUH and as my hand used to roam about in the dish he said to me: O Boy, mention the name of Allah (Recite Bismillah at the start of eating), and eat with your right hand and eat from what is near to you. (Sahih Bukhari:5376)
5. at the start of writing:
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to write a letter to someone, he write “Bismillah” at the start of writing. (Sahih Bukhari:7, 6260) after He PBUH passed away the companions also used to follow his sunnah and write “Bismillah” at the start of their writing something to someone. (Sahih Bukhari:1454)
6. In The Event Of An Accident Or An Animal’s Feet Slipping:
Sayyiduna Usama says, I was sitting behind Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, suddenly our Camel’s foot slipped. I said “Destruction to Satan”. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Don’t say destruction to Satan” in this way he enlarges himself and becomes like a house and gets stronger. But you should say the following supplication and when you will say this, Satan will start to become small, even small like a fly. [Mustadrak Hakim: 7793]
7. at the time of visiting a sick or injured person:
‘A’isha reported that when any person fell ill with a disease or he had any ailment or he had any injury, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed his forefinger upon the ground and then lifted it by reciting the name of Allah (BIsmillah) (then recite the following complete dua). (Sahih Muslim:2194)
Dua to visit a sick or injured person:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقَةِ بَعْضِنَا، يُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا
The dust of our ground with the saliva of any one of us would serve as a means whereby our illness would be cured with the sanction of Allah”
Above are mentioned some special occasions on which the Messenger of Allah especially used to recite “Bismillah” or ordered to recite “Bismillah”. Therefore, every
Muslim must recite Bismillah on these occasions and for every work. It will come Allah’s mercy and blessing in every job. In Sh Allah
Dua No.2: Surat Ul Fatiha
The Surat Al-Fatihah has a lot of greatness and virtues as it is one of the pillars of the prayer. It is the best Surah of the Quran. It includes all three types of Tawhid. It refers to well-being for both hearts and bodies. It is a refutation of all the followers of falsehood. It sums up all the meanings of the divinely-revealed Books. It contains the most beneficial of supplications. It is the key to all goodness and happiness in this world and the hereafter. In the following there is one Hadith on the reward of this Surah.
The reward of Surah Fatiha:
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) say’: “Allah said: ‘I have divided the Surah Fatiha between Myself and My slave into two halves, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.’When the slave says: ‘Al-hamdulillah i rabbil Alameen (All the praise is to Allah, the Lord of all that exists),’ Allah says:’My slave has praised Me, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.’ And when he says: ‘Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim (The Mos Gracious, the Most Merciful),’ Allah says: ‘My slave has extolled Me, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.’ And when he says: ‘Maliki yawmiddin [The Only Owner (and he Ruling Judge] if the Day of Recompense],’ Allahs says: ‘My slave has Glorified Me. This is for Me, and this Verse is between me and My slave in two halves.’ And when he says: ‘ Iyyaka na’budu wa iyyaka nastain [You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help],’ He says: ‘This is between Me an My slave, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.’ And the end of the Surah is for My slave.’ And when he says: ‘Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqeema, siratal-alldhina an’amta alayhim a lad-dallin [Guide us to the Straight Way, the way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not(the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray],’ He says: ‘THis is for My slave, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.” (Sunan Ibn e Majah:3784)
Translation:
In the Name of Allāh, the Most. Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are Allāh’s, the Lord of the ʻĀlamīn (mankind, jinn and all that exists) The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything). Guide us to the Straight Way. The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (i.e. those whose intentions are perverted: they know the Truth, yet do not follow it), nor of those who went astray (i.e. those who have lost the (true) knowledge, so they wander in error, and are not guided to the Truth)
Dua No.3: Dua at the time to leave the home (Be Guided, Defended & Protected)
A person’s home is the best place of refuge for him. The Messenger of Allah PBUH has also described staying at home as a reason to get protection from all kinds of trials and calamities. Therefore, when a person goes out of his house, he is worried that he should return home safely. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught a dua, which by reciting when going out of the house, a person becomes under the protection of Allah.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik Narrated: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: When a man goes out of his house and says this Supplication. The following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected”. The devils will go far from him and a devil will say to another devil: How did this man escape you? and became guided, defended and protected? (The person became protected with this dua). [Abu Dawud: 5095]
With Allah’s name (I leave home), relying on Allah, There is no power and no strength except Allah. (It is Allah who protects us with His might)
Dua No.4: When Entering the Market (Opportunity to earn millions of goodies)
Markets are essential places for any society, but it is forbidden to go there unnecessarily to prohibit from their misuse, Allah’s Messenger PBUH said:
The parts of land dearest to Allah are its mosques, and the parts most hateful to Allah are markets. (Sahih Muslim: 671)
But if a person goes there to fulfill his legitimate need in compliance with the Islamic teachings, then there is good news of reward for him to go to the market. So it is
necessary that a person goes to the market only from work and applies the complete Islamic teachings on him and recites the following dua to get millions of goodies.
The reward of Dua:
Sayyiduna Umar Narrated that the Messenger of Allah PBUH said: “Whoever says the following Supplication when he enters the market place, Allah Almighty will record for him one million good deeds and will erase from him one million bad deeds and will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Ibn-e-Majah: 2235)
There is none worthy of worship besides Allah. He is all by Himself. He has no partner. His is the Kingdom, to Him is all praise. He gives and takes life and He is all by Himself. He will not die. In His hands is all good and Allah has control (power) over all things.
Dua No.5: Dua for settling debts, even if debt is as big as a mountain
A man takes help from other mans to solve his worldly problems. Sometimes this help is in financial form, which is called Qaradh e Hasna which has to be returned after a time. Although one helps each other through financial debt and Islam allows it, the Messenger of Allah sought refuge from it so one time someone from the companions said to him – (the Holy Prophet): O Messenger of Allah! Why is it that you so often seek refuge from debt? He said: When a (person) incurs debt, (he is obliged) to tell lies and break promise. (Sahih Muslim:589)
When a person gets into debt, he knows what pain, trouble and difficulty he is going through. Debt takes away the peace of mind of a person. Especially in modern times, banks and other multinational companies have started lending on interest. Once a person is trapped in it, it becomes difficult to find salvation throughout his life. Therefore, Islam has given complete guidance to get rid of debt and has also taught many prayers to get rid of this difficulty.
The reward of Dua:
Sayyiduna Ali Narrated that a “Mukatib” came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my “Kitabah” so aid me. Sayyiduna Ali said: “Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah PBUH taught me? Sayyiduna Ali said: recite the following Supplication and if you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of “Ser” (name of a mountain) Allah Almighty would remove it for you. [Tirmidhi: 3563]
(Recite this dua frequently)
O Allah! Make what is lawful enough for me, as opposed to what is unlawful, and spare me by Your grace the need of others
Note: A mukatib is a slave who has agreed (Kitabah) with his master to free him on condition that he pays a certain amount of money.
Very Important note:
Remember that! Man suffers in his life through many trials in this world in which he has to face many kinds of difficulties, troubles and problems. Often these trails make this person upset and disappointed as he starts to follow non-Sharia rules to get rid of them or get solution to them but one thing should be kept in mind that as long as a person is not close to Allah, it is not possible to get rid of these worldly trials.
